Obituary for Maria Anna Carrino (Stabile)

Maria Anna Carrino, 92, entered peacefully into eternal rest at her home on Friday February 11, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born September 21, 1929 in Roscigno Italy, the daughter of Leonardo and Nicolina (Lorenzo) Stabile. Born Maria Anna, she answered to many different nicknames, Ann, Annie, Amalia, Molly, Maria, Nammie, and Grandma. In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her siblings Nicola, Michael, and Joseph Stabile. She is also predeceased by her one and only love Joseph A. Carrino Sr. Ann came to the United States through Ellis Island in 1935. She graduated from Manhattan High School in 1947 with perfect attendance. After graduation she worked as a seamstress on 34th street, NY, until her marriage on May 14, 1955.
In 1966, Joe and Ann moved their family to New Fairfield, Connecticut, where she stayed at home to care for their four children. After the death of her husband in 1974 she worked in the cafeteria at Grolier Publishing, then Danbury Hospital for 18 years until her retirement. Ann loved to travel the world with her cousins and many close friends. She enjoyed gardening, exercising, and bowling. She considered herself a critic of feature films and of the Hallmark channel to anyone who would listen. Playing “canaster” and poker were her favorite pastimes. She took great pleasure in practicing her Italian to remain fluent.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Joanne and Art Cresci, Michele and Russ Hanson, Joseph and Kim Carrino, and Nicole and Fred DuVerger. In addition, she is also survived by her loving grandchildren Nikki and Chris Stunkel, A.J. Cresci, Russell, Joseph and Jack Hanson, Joseph, Lauren and Jillian Carrino, Danielle and Natalie DuVerger. She also leaves behind several cousins, nieces and nephews, close friends, as well as her loving caregivers Noelle, Kathleen, Samantha, Angela, and Alex.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10am Friday, February 18, 2022 at St. John of the Cross Church, 1263 West St. Middlebury, CT. Interment immediately following at Mountain View Cemetery, Rt. 37 New Fairfield, CT. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Please wear something purple as this was Ann’s favorite color.
